Ready to Sound Like the Records You Love?

Grammy-nominated producer and label owner Jay-J shares his own tested workflows, technology and concepts refined over 2 decades of mixing, mastering, producing and teaching workshops.

These advanced concept based workshops will help you achieve a finished product closer to the sound of those you look up to. Learn example settings, tips and tricks as well as what to listen for, how to listen, and a deep understanding of the tools we use through a clear, distinct, and intentional approach to making music sound good. Curriculum will be customized for your DAW, whether it’s Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools or Reason and this approach has proven success in many genres.

This mixing and mastering curriculum is complete with lectures and explanations, and pdf notes you can refer back to. Students are encouraged to APPLY the concepts to a working production for personalized feedback before moving on.

Some topics covered:

  • Calibration and Reference music
  • Levels, Stereo field, Pre Mix prep
  • Dynamics
  • EQ
  • Texture EFX and Send effects
  • Mastering / Mix Check workflow

Jay-J’s goal is to instill a level of understanding that creates confidence, intention and deliberate adjustments for EQ's, Compressors, Reverbs, and some other tools we use daily while creating.  No more haphazardly turning knobs to maybe land on something you THINK sounds good, this course will have you thinking about a sound, dynamic, or texture treatment in your head and picturing the settings it would take to achieve the sounds you desire.

Spanning 10 hours this course gives you a good amount of lecture and discussion, about an hour and a half each lesson. You will apply first on your own, in between lessons referring to the notes and videos along the way, then we discuss and check the mix before moving on.
